Cascade Engineeringachieves Cyber Essentials

We’re delighted to have achieved Cyber Essentials accreditation, which helps to protect our business and our clients from the most common cyberattacks.

As a business that accesses and stores highly confidential customer data, including data held under commercial non-disclosure agreements, it’s vital that we can demonstrate our commitment to best practice when it comes to security and access. That includes the IT and technology we use, and training for our staff and any contractors to ensure that the standard routes of entry used by cyber criminals are blocked.

Working through the Cyber Essentials process has given us important oversight of our policies, processes and approaches, allowing us to see what we are doing well and where there are areas that we have needed to improve. Achieving the certification means our security meets the required standards, giving our customers confidence in our approach.

“Our projects usually involve highly confidential commercial information,” says MD Ben Barrass. “This can include anything from project background and requirement to detailed engineering drawings. So it’s extremely important that we can demonstrate to customers that we have the right protections in place. The Cyber Essentials process has allowed us to test our approach, and show customers that their data is safe in our hands.”

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed scheme, developed in partnership with the National Centre for Cyber Security. A self-assessed process, it challenges businesses to think about their approach to cybersecurity and make the necessary changes to protect themselves against attack, including educating employees.

“Cybersecurity is constantly in the news,” says Ben Barrass.“All business of all sizes should make sure that they are doing everything they can to protect themselves and their customers – everyone quite rightly expects that you are taking these issues seriously. And as a business with serious growth ambitions, this is an obvious step to take. We will continue to put cybersecurity at the forefront of our business strategy.”
